Blackwater Blog is an online scrapbook of words and pictures about anything in nature from springtails to sparrowhawks.

It can be read if you click here and there is a new piece up on vultures. But every few weeks I post a Photo of the Month, an image of something striking or seasonal. This month it is of an all-time favourite animal, doing something rather wonderful and very dangerous. Click the picture above to see it.

My new book Our Place (click title for more details) has had a great reception so far with highly sympathetic reviews in The Observer by Alex Preston and The New Statesman by Richard Smyth. Click either one to see what they said. Christopher Hart in the Sunday Times called it 'a sobering and magnificent work'.

The release of a new book now seems to involve more work than the actual writing of it. This year I have already done 25 speaking dates and have about 20 more before year's end. I hope to see you and if you look on the Talks page you can see my upcoming appearances.

I continue to expand my programme of wildlife and writing courses with new venues upcoming including a week-long visit to Epirus and Prespa from 12-19 May 2019 and then a circumnavigation of Lake Prespa that takes in Greece, Albania and Macedonia from 20-27 May 2019. Chris Mounsey of Balkan Tracks and I are just preparing the publicity for these but if you are interested please click and tell me here.
